HYDERABAD: Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, plans to introduce drone technology training for agricultural engineering graduates in collaboration with Al-Karam Group.

The proposed programme aims to help graduates develop practical skills for modern farming, including precision agriculture and digital agricultural technologies.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Altaf Ali Siyal outlined the initiative during the opening session of a two-day workshop on tractor operation and maintenance organised by the university’s Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology.

Focus on practical farming skills

The university intends to strengthen training in technologies such as drones, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing.

These tools can help agricultural professionals monitor fields, assess crop conditions and make more informed decisions about the use of water and other farm resources.

Professor Siyal said agricultural engineering education needed to keep pace with increasing mechanisation, robotics and technology-based farming practices.

He also outlined plans to provide tractor-operation and drone training opportunities for female students.

The proposed training reflects the university’s wider emphasis on connecting academic qualifications with practical skills sought by agricultural employers.

Tractor maintenance workshop

The two-day workshop focused on farm machinery operation, maintenance and workplace safety.

Faculty Dean Professor Dr Muneer Ahmed Mangrio emphasised the importance of practical experience in engine mechanics, machinery maintenance and field operations.

The university also highlighted the need for agricultural engineering graduates to receive appropriate recognition in public- and private-sector recruitment.

The announcement did not establish a confirmed start date, training duration, admission procedure or number of places for the proposed drone programme.

Further details will be needed before prospective participants can apply.
