ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Islamabad’s Daanish IT Park, previously referred to as the National Technology Park, on October 10, describing it as a step towards expanding Pakistan’s technology and startup ecosystem.
Speaking at the ceremony, the prime minister said the facility was designed to bring together startups, small and medium enterprises, innovation hubs, incubators and technology specialists. He emphasised opportunities in artificial intelligence and skills development.
Sharif directed the information technology ministry to arrange transparent bidding to attract experienced local and international companies to operate the facility. That direction indicates the park’s inauguration should not be described as the start of full commercial operations.
The prime minister also spoke about plans to replicate similar facilities in other provinces once the Islamabad project is functioning effectively. Those future parks remain proposals rather than completed developments.
Officials and representatives from the technology sector attended the inauguration. South Korea’s cooperation was acknowledged in connection with the project.
For Pakistan’s technology industry, the key measure of success will be whether the new facility attracts tenants, supports viable businesses and delivers sustained training and incubation activity after the opening ceremony.
