The federal government has reported a fourfold increase in the number of merchants accepting digital payments as part of its Cashless Pakistan initiative.

The figures were presented during a government review meeting on October 13, according to an official announcement.

Officials also reported that 99% of payments handled by the National Database and Registration Authority were being made through digital channels.

The figures describe progress reported by the government and should not be read as independently audited measures of all retail transactions in Pakistan.

The initiative is intended to increase the use of electronic payment methods by businesses and public-service providers, reducing reliance on cash for routine transactions.
