ISLAMABAD, October 31, 2026 — The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has inspected more than 900 mobile network sites across the country as part of an effort to identify problems affecting the reliability of telecommunications services.

The regulator examined 184 sites between October 22 and 28, bringing the cumulative number of monitored locations to more than 900.

According to an official PTA statement reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan, inspectors identified electricity supply problems, inadequate backup arrangements and faults involving batteries and generators.

Teams also reported deficiencies in network equipment and concerns about the safety of fibre-optic cables.

The latest inspections covered Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Swat, Rahim Yar Khan, Nankana Sahib, Gilgit, South Karachi and several other locations.

Rural areas, including parts of Arifwala, were also included in the monitoring exercise.

Mobile network sites rely on electricity and backup power systems to keep services operating during outages.

Failures in these systems can contribute to interrupted calls, unstable connections and reduced mobile internet availability.

PTA said the inspections were conducted in coordination with telecom operators, district administrations and other local stakeholders.

The regulator is working with the relevant organisations to address the problems identified.

The effectiveness of the monitoring programme will ultimately depend on whether the identified infrastructure problems are corrected and network reliability improves for consumers.
