Islamabad, November 4, 2026 — The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Privatisation scheduled its 17th meeting for November 4 at Parliament House, amid continuing parliamentary scrutiny of state-owned enterprises.
The session was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in Committee Room No. 7.
At its previous meeting on September 17, the committee reviewed developments involving Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), electricity distribution companies and Postal Life Insurance.
PIA and Power Companies
Officials informed the committee in September that an Arif Habib-led consortium had submitted a winning bid of Rs135 billion for a 75% stake in PIA.
Management control was transferred in June 2026, while the buyer expressed interest in acquiring the remaining 25%, subject to contractual requirements.
The committee was also briefed on plans to privatise electricity distribution companies through the sale of 51% to 100% shareholdings with management control.
Ten parties had been prequalified for Faisalabad Electric Supply Company, while 11 submissions for Gujranwala Electric Power Company were under evaluation.
Outstanding Insurance Claims
The September briefing also identified Rs15.5 billion in outstanding Postal Life Insurance liabilities, covering approximately 55,450 claims as of June 2026.
The committee called for additional funding to address delayed payments and emphasised transparency and regulatory oversight in privatisation transactions.
