Islamabad, November 5, 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar directed federal ministries to strengthen coordination on Pakistan’s water security during a high-level meeting held in Islamabad on November 4.
The meeting examined three areas of national water security: legal rights, diplomatic engagement and technical considerations.
Ministries Asked to Coordinate
Dar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereign rights and instructed relevant ministries to work closely together in advancing national interests.
The meeting was attended by the federal ministers for Water Resources and Information and Broadcasting, relevant federal secretaries and senior officials.
The involvement of the Foreign Ministry alongside water-sector authorities placed diplomatic and technical considerations within the same government review.
Focus of the Review
The meeting addressed national water security at the federal policy level rather than announcing a new infrastructure project.
The government’s official account identified inter-ministerial coordination as the principal instruction issued by Dar.
Pakistan has separately continued to raise the Indus Waters Treaty in diplomatic discussions, including during Dar’s October meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
