The Sindh government has sought $350 million in World Bank financing for a proposed project intended to strengthen flood protection and resilience to climate-related disasters. The plan was presented during a meeting between provincial officials and a World Bank delegation chaired by Sindh Minister Jam Khan Shoro, according to reporting published on October 9. The proposed Sindh Flood Resilience Project would focus on the right bank of the Indus River and on secondary cities exposed to flooding, extreme heat and other hazards. Officials said the 2022 floods affected about 14.6 million people in Sindh and caused estimated losses of $9.1 billion, while approximately 1.71 million homes were damaged or destroyed. The briefing also outlined rehabilitation work since the disaster, including roads, protective embankments and housing. Provincial officials expect concept clearance by October 30, PC-I approval in December 2026 and World Bank board consideration in March 2027. Those dates are anticipated milestones, not completed approvals. The requested $350 million must not be described as an approved loan or disbursed funding. The final scope and financing conditions will depend on subsequent reviews and decisions.
