ISLAMABAD, October 30, 2026 — Pakistan and Singapore have discussed the possible resumption of direct flights between the two countries as part of efforts to strengthen business travel, trade and bilateral cooperation.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in Islamabad on Friday.
The two ministers reviewed bilateral relations and explored opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity and skills development.
Dar said restoring direct air links could facilitate business travel and strengthen contact between people in both countries.
The discussions also covered closer engagement between businesses and investment institutions, with Pakistan expressing interest in strengthening economic ties with Singapore.
Both sides highlighted the importance of continued diplomatic exchanges as the countries mark 60 years of diplomatic relations.
During the visit, the two foreign ministers exchanged a memorandum of understanding on disaster management cooperation between Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in disaster preparedness, emergency response and resilience against natural disasters.
The ministers also discussed cooperation in regional and international forums, including Pakistan’s engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Singapore is due to assume ASEAN’s chairmanship in 2027, providing another opportunity for diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Improved air connectivity could make travel more convenient for business delegations and support closer commercial relations, particularly as Pakistan seeks to expand investment and trade partnerships in Southeast Asia.
The visit reflects efforts by both governments to broaden cooperation beyond diplomatic relations into practical areas such as transport connectivity, business engagement and disaster management.
