The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has extended the tenure of the Sindh High Court’s constitutional benches by one year, following a meeting held in Islamabad on October 13.

According to the official October 13 Judicial Commission announcement, the commission re-nominated all existing judges serving on the constitutional benches and approved the extension by a majority of 14 votes to one.

The meeting was held at the Supreme Court building and chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.

The decision provides for the continuation of the existing constitutional benches for another year.

During the same meeting, the commission also considered a complaint concerning the educational qualifications of senior lawyer and commission member Ahsan Bhoon.

The commission was informed that the Pakistan Bar Council had confirmed that Bhoon’s law degree had been verified by the University of Punjab on two occasions.

The extension concerns the tenure and composition of the constitutional benches. It does not determine the outcome of any individual constitutional case pending before the Sindh High Court.
