RAWALPINDI: The district administration has imposed Section 144 across Rawalpindi for 30 days, restricting public gatherings and the open display of weapons amid concerns about law and order.
The order, announced on October 10, follows a warning from the District Intelligence Committee about possible threats to sensitive installations, major roads and other critical infrastructure. The notification prohibits gatherings of more than five people and a range of weapons and objects that could be used to cause harm.
The decision comes as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continues its long march in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Party leaders have discussed moving towards Islamabad, although the march had not reached Rawalpindi when the restrictions were announced.
Section 144 allows district authorities to impose temporary restrictions to prevent threats to public safety. Residents and organisers should check the full district notification for applicable exemptions and enforcement details before planning gatherings.
The administration has cited intelligence assessments as the basis for its action. Those assessments are official claims and do not establish that a specific attack has occurred.
The restrictions were reported by Dawn on October 10.
