ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasised the need to adopt research-based and technology-driven solutions to improve healthcare services in Pakistan.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with Siemens Executive Vice President Daniel Frisch and Head of Government Affairs Veronika Pfister in Berlin on October 24.
The discussions focused on technological cooperation, healthcare development and opportunities for Siemens to expand its activities in Pakistan.
Focus on healthcare technology
President Zardari stressed the importance of modern technologies and research-based approaches in improving the quality of healthcare services.
He acknowledged the longstanding presence of Siemens’ healthcare operations in Pakistan and the contribution of German industrial and technological expertise.
According to the meeting report, Siemens’ health division has maintained a presence in Pakistan for several decades and employs more than 100 people across three major Pakistani cities, including Karachi.
The president said Pakistan valued the technological and infrastructure support provided by German organisations.
Siemens representatives to visit Pakistan
During the meeting, Siemens representatives informed the president that company officials would soon visit Pakistan to pursue memorandums of understanding with local partners.
The planned agreements would focus on capacity building and technological cooperation in Pakistan’s healthcare industry.
The proposed engagement could support the exchange of technical expertise and further collaboration between Siemens and Pakistani healthcare organisations.
Opportunities for broader investment
President Zardari also encouraged Siemens to consider diversifying its investments into other social and industrial sectors in Pakistan.
He highlighted the company’s international expertise and expressed interest in expanding cooperation beyond existing activities.
The president assured Siemens of institutional support through the Special Investment Facilitation Council, which works to facilitate investment and coordination with relevant government bodies.
