GUJRAT: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has scheduled an All-Pakistan Doctors’ Convention in Gujrat for October 11 to consider further action over Federal Board of Revenue tax documentation and monitoring measures.

The association objects to requirements including point-of-sale integration for medical practices and monitoring provisions linked to Section 175C of the Income Tax Ordinance. PMA leaders argue that healthcare services should not be regulated in the same way as conventional retail businesses.

The scheduled meeting follows a one-day protest by doctors on September 30. PMA representatives say the convention will consider the next stage of their campaign if discussions with the government do not resolve their concerns.

The association has warned that an indefinite nationwide suspension of services could be considered, but no such action had been confirmed in the advance reporting reviewed for this draft. The meeting’s actual resolutions should be checked before publication later on October 11.

The dispute raises questions about tax compliance, patient access and the operation of private medical facilities. Patients should rely on announcements from their healthcare providers for any changes to appointments or services.
