ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has opened the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Council of National Coordinators meeting in Islamabad, beginning three days of discussions under its 2026–27 chairmanship.

The meeting, scheduled for September 28–30, brings together national coordinators from SCO member states and representatives of the organisation’s Secretariat, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pakistan’s national coordinator is chairing the proceedings.

Delegates are discussing the SCO’s programme of activities, preparations for forthcoming meetings and priorities for cooperation during Pakistan’s chairmanship. The Council of National Coordinators helps coordinate work among member states and prepares matters for consideration by ministers and heads of state.

Pakistan is chairing the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026–27 under the theme “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.”

The government has identified regional connectivity, innovation, economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges as priorities for its term. The Islamabad discussions will help organise the meetings and coordination needed to advance those areas.

Pakistan is also due to host the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting in August 2027. Preparations for that gathering form part of the wider programme being developed during the current chairmanship.

The SCO provides a forum for cooperation on political, security and economic issues across Eurasia. Pakistan’s Foreign Office said it intends to work closely with member states and the SCO Secretariat throughout its term.

The Islamabad meeting is an early step in preparing the organisation’s activities and high-level engagements over the coming year.
