ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal reviewed progress on pharmaceutical investment agreements with representatives of three companies on October 22, focusing on industrial cooperation and improvements to Pakistan’s medicine supply chain.
The meeting followed the Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical and Healthcare B2B Investment Conference 2026, where companies discussed opportunities in pharmaceutical manufacturing, technology transfer and healthcare investment.
Officials examined the implementation of agreements reached at the conference and discussed steps to advance cooperation between Pakistani and Chinese businesses.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan’s (DRAP) medicine track-and-trace system, which uses two-dimensional barcodes to improve monitoring across the pharmaceutical supply chain.
The DRAP Management Information System team was directed to provide a briefing and practical demonstration of the technology.
The meeting also discussed the visit of AJ Vaccines, scheduled from October 18 to 22, to explore cooperation in local vaccine production and manufacturing.
Earlier Pakistan-China pharmaceutical agreements have included proposals for domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, technology transfer and investment in manufacturing facilities.
The government is seeking to expand local pharmaceutical capacity, strengthen medicine supply monitoring and attract investment in a sector that relies on imported ingredients and specialised production technology.
