RAWALPINDI — The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) arrested 61 people during a raid on a call centre in Rawalpindi’s Satellite Town over an alleged scheme targeting foreign nationals.
The agency said its Rawalpindi Circle carried out the operation in Commercial Market after receiving information about suspected illegal activity. Officers seized 155 laptops and 71 mobile phones for forensic examination.
According to the NCCIA, the call centre was allegedly contacting people overseas while posing as a loan-recovery operation. Investigators suspect that callers used threats and intimidation to demand payments from the people they contacted.
A case has been registered, and the agency is examining the seized equipment and electronic records as part of its investigation. The arrests and allegations will be subject to the legal process.
The operation forms part of the NCCIA’s efforts to tackle cybercrime and suspected financial fraud involving internet-based communications. Digital devices and account records can help investigators trace communications, examine payment activity and establish the roles of people involved in a suspected operation.
NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said the agency would continue action against illegal call centres and cyber fraud. The Rawalpindi operation follows other investigations involving call centres accused of targeting victims abroad.
The agency has not announced the outcome of its forensic examination. Further findings are expected to emerge as investigators review the seized devices and proceed with the registered case.
