ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has announced an annual system maintenance programme covering power transformers at more than 130 grid stations and equipment on more than 1,295 electricity feeders. The programme is scheduled to run from 15 October 2026 to 8 February 2027.

IESCO says the work will include 132-kilovolt grid stations, 11-kilovolt feeders, transmission lines and related electrical installations. Temporary electricity shutdowns will be needed on selected feeders while crews carry out maintenance.

Advance notice of interruptions

IESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood has directed field teams to notify affected consumers before planned shutdowns, monitor the duration of interruptions and follow safety procedures. Supervising officers have been asked to oversee work at the relevant sites.

The company says the programme aims to address technical deficiencies, improve reliability and reduce faults and tripping. These are IESCO’s stated objectives, rather than independently verified results of maintenance yet to be completed.

Check your feeder’s schedule

A system-wide programme does not mean that all consumers will lose electricity simultaneously. The date and duration of any interruption depend on the feeder and the work being undertaken.

IESCO publishes maintenance schedules and power-suspension notices on its website, including notices affecting Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal. Consumers should consult the latest official notice for their area before making arrangements.

Periodic inspection and servicing can help distribution companies identify equipment faults, although planned shutdowns may inconvenience households and businesses. This programme concerns operational maintenance and is separate from proposals concerning the ownership of electricity distribution companies.
