Karachi, November 5, 2026 — Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial has said the government plans to gradually abolish the super tax imposed on businesses.
Speaking to members of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on November 4, Langrial said the super tax rate had already been reduced by two percentage points, with the process of its eventual elimination now under way.
New FBR Office for Korangi
Langrial announced plans to establish an FBR office at KATI to help industrialists resolve taxation and administrative problems more efficiently.
He also said the FBR would expand its taxpayer help-desk services from Karachi to Sukkur.
The chairman assured businesses that the tax authority would consult stakeholders to address problems involving the import of industrial raw materials.
Industry Concerns and Tax Compliance
The meeting also covered border-trade issues affecting the leather industry and possible improvements to the pharmaceutical sector’s Track and Trace System.
KATI President Sheikh Umer Rehan proposed a joint committee to improve coordination between industrialists and tax officials.
Langrial urged businesses to cooperate with the FBR in identifying tax evasion and improving transparency.
The proposed super tax phase-out would represent a significant change in business taxation, although the government has not announced a timetable for its complete abolition.
