Islamabad, November 5, 2026 — Pakistan has received assurances from China and Kuwait regarding the extension of loans worth a combined $4.3 billion, according to reports citing Finance Ministry sources.

China is expected to roll over $4 billion, while Kuwait is expected to extend a $300 million facility. The Chinese loans are due for renewal in March 2027.

Three Countries Account for $7.3 Billion

The reported commitments follow Saudi Arabia’s rollover of a $3 billion loan, previously confirmed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

Combined, the expected extensions from China, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia amount to $7.3 billion.

A loan rollover extends an existing debt’s repayment deadline. It does not represent an equivalent amount of new money entering the country.

Managing External Payments

Pakistan faces approximately $21 billion in external payment obligations during the current fiscal year, making the extension of existing loans an important part of its financing strategy.

The country is also expecting a $1.21 billion disbursement from the International Monetary Fund in December, subject to the required approval.

The anticipated rollovers could ease immediate pressure on foreign-exchange reserves by reducing the amount Pakistan must repay over the coming months.

However, the Chinese and Kuwaiti arrangements have been reported as assurances rather than completed extensions. Their finalisation remains important for Pakistan’s external financing plans.
