Pakistan and Malaysia held the 16th meeting of their Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation at the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi on Thursday, 15 October, reviewing bilateral security ties and progress since the committee’s previous session.
Pakistan’s delegation was led by retired Lieutenant General Muhammad Ali, the defence secretary. Malaysia’s delegation was headed by Mohd Yani bin Daud, deputy secretary-general for policy at Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence.
Progress since 2025
According to Pakistan’s Press Information Department, the delegations discussed matters of mutual interest before the formal plenary session. They then reviewed developments since the 2025 committee meeting in Malaysia and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence and security cooperation.
The committee provides a channel for regular official dialogue between the two countries. The announcement did not identify a newly signed defence treaty, arms procurement agreement or deployment arrangement, and none should be inferred from the meeting.
What happens next
The official statement emphasised continued engagement but did not publish a detailed timetable for specific projects. Further information about any resulting initiatives would require subsequent announcements from the relevant defence authorities.
