TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on regional countries to take a leading role in maintaining their own security following talks in Tehran involving officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

In remarks reported on Wednesday, October 28, Araghchi said lasting regional security should be developed through cooperation among neighbouring countries without military interference by powers outside the region.

His comments followed a four-country meeting in Tehran on October 26, where senior representatives discussed regional tensions and prospects for continued diplomatic engagement.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Iran agreed to maintain consultations on regional peace and security.

Araghchi described the discussions as an opportunity to develop further cooperation, while identifying mutual trust, respect for national sovereignty and practical commitments as necessary foundations for progress.

The talks brought together senior security and defence representatives at a time of continuing tensions across the Middle East.

The agreement to continue discussions provides a channel for further diplomatic engagement among the participating countries.
