Houthi forces targeted Aden International Airport with ballistic missiles and explosive drones, according to Yemeni authorities, as fighting intensified across Yemen and attacks linked to the conflict spread toward Saudi territory.
Yemen’s Transport Ministry said one missile landed near the airport runway shortly before a flight from Cairo was due to arrive. The flight was diverted to Jeddah, and two aircraft at Aden were moved as a precaution.
There was no immediate Houthi comment on the Aden airport attack at the time of the report. That makes attribution to the Houthis a claim from Yemeni authorities rather than an independently established account of every detail of the strike.
The Saudi-led coalition separately said it intercepted Houthi missiles heading toward Saudi territory.
A Houthi spokesman claimed a drone attack on King Khalid International Airport, while Saudi authorities had not confirmed that claim at the time. The Houthis also claimed attacks involving Abha and an airbase.
The coalition said a missile heading toward Khamis Mushait had been intercepted.
The latest attacks come as fighting inside Yemen has intensified. Government forces have recently advanced along the Bab el-Mandeb coast, adding pressure to a conflict already affecting one of the world’s most strategically important shipping areas.
Aden is the seat of Yemen’s internationally recognised government and its airport is an important civilian transport link. Any sustained threat to the airport could disrupt passenger traffic and deepen the economic and humanitarian consequences of the fighting.
The reports also underline the need for caution around rapidly developing wartime claims. Statements from the Yemeni government, the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis describe different parts of the conflict and cannot always be independently verified immediately.
The confirmed news development is that Aden airport operations were disrupted after an attack reported by Yemeni authorities, including the diversion of an arriving flight, while the wider exchange of missile and drone claims continued across Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
