Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met a Jamaat-e-Islami delegation in Islamabad on November 3 to discuss petroleum prices and possible measures to reduce the financial burden on households.
The delegation was led by Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch.
According to an official statement issued by the Press Information Department, the discussions focused on practical ways to provide relief to the public, particularly people with lower incomes.
Consultations to continue
Both sides agreed to continue discussions over the coming days to develop proposals on energy pricing and public relief.
Dar reiterated the government’s commitment to public welfare amid economic pressures and challenges affecting energy costs.
He also emphasised the importance of dialogue between political parties in addressing national economic issues.
Senior officials attend meeting
The meeting was attended by the federal minister for planning, development and special initiatives, the adviser to the prime minister on inter-provincial coordination, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the finance secretary and the special secretary for petroleum.
Their participation reflected the involvement of several government departments in discussions about fuel pricing and its wider economic implications.
Focus on household expenses
Petroleum prices affect transport costs and can influence the prices of goods and services across the economy.
Relief measures for lower-income consumers were therefore a central subject of the talks.
The government and Jamaat-e-Islami are expected to continue consultations, but the official statement did not specify when any proposal would be finalised or implemented.
