The price of petrol in Pakistan has fallen by Rs1.49 per litre to Rs387.54, while high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs2.73 to Rs402.24 per litre for September 30.
The revised ex-depot prices were notified under the government’s petroleum-pricing mechanism after calculations by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
The latest adjustment takes petrol down from Rs389.03 per litre and high-speed diesel from Rs404.97 per litre.
Petrol and diesel prices for September 30
The notified rates are:
- Petrol: Rs387.54 per litre, down Rs1.49
- High-speed diesel: Rs402.24 per litre, down Rs2.73
The Petroleum Division said the changes reflected movements in international-market pricing inputs, including Platts rates, premiums and incidentals.
Pakistan has been revising petroleum prices more frequently amid unusually volatile international energy markets. Under the current mechanism, domestic rates can change as the underlying international benchmarks and other pricing components move.
Why the two fuels matter
Petrol is widely used by cars, motorcycles and other light vehicles, so changes in its price are felt directly by a large number of households and commuters.
High-speed diesel has a broader role in commercial transport, agriculture and freight. Changes in diesel prices can therefore affect transport costs across supply chains, although the effect on the price of individual goods depends on several other factors as well.
Domestic pump prices are not determined by the international oil price alone. The final retail structure also includes government levies, dealer and oil-marketing-company margins, freight adjustments and other components of the pricing formula.
Latest move continues recent reductions
The September 30 revision follows another reduction a day earlier. That means motorists should check the effective date attached to each official notification rather than relying on an older rate circulating online.
The new rates apply for September 30, 2026. Because the current system allows frequent revisions, they should not be assumed to remain unchanged beyond the period covered by the notification.
For consumers, the immediate change is straightforward: petrol is Rs1.49 per litre cheaper than the previous rate, while high-speed diesel is Rs2.73 per litre cheaper. The resulting pump benchmarks are Rs387.54 and Rs402.24 per litre respectively.
What motorists should check
Consumers comparing fuel prices should pay close attention to the effective date on each notification because older rates can quickly become outdated when revisions are frequent. The September 30 notification establishes the applicable petrol and high-speed diesel benchmarks for that date under the current pricing mechanism.
The reduction also does not mean transport fares or retail prices elsewhere in the economy will fall by the same amount. Fuel is one input among many, and businesses face different cost structures. The official revision changes the notified petroleum-product rates; it does not prescribe price changes for other goods or services.
