The federal government has raised petrol to Rs398.96 a litre and high-speed diesel to Rs395.72 for October 9. The respective increases are Rs2.31 and Re0.78, compared with the previous prices of Rs396.65 and Rs394.94. The Petroleum Division issued the revision on October 8 under the daily fuel-price review system. The change reflects a period of substantial volatility in international oil markets amid the Middle East conflict. Under the revised pricing arrangement, officials have described a seven-day average of international prices as an input to daily calculations. The October 9 figures therefore should not be represented as prices fixed for the remainder of the week. Diesel costs matter for freight and agricultural operations, while petrol prices affect commuters and private transport. The precise effect on consumers depends on their fuel use and subsequent price changes. The October 9 revision follows the separate October 8 notification, when petrol stood at Rs396.65 and diesel at Rs394.94. This report concerns the newly notified October 9 prices.
