Pakistan’s federal government has raised the price of petrol by Rs1.20 per litre while making a small reduction in the price of high-speed diesel, with both adjustments taking effect on Thursday, 15 October 2026.
The new notified petrol price is Rs393.86 per litre, compared with Rs392.66 previously. High-speed diesel has fallen by Rs0.17 per litre, from Rs396.82 to Rs396.65.
The revised rates were announced by the Petroleum Division on 14 October and confirmed in reporting by the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). The ministry said the adjustments were made under the government’s petroleum pricing mechanism, taking account of international market developments, including benchmark prices and related costs.
What the changes mean
The petrol increase is modest in absolute terms but adds to the cost of travel for motorists who rely on petrol-powered cars and motorcycles. For a 40-litre purchase, the increase amounts to Rs48 compared with the immediately preceding notified rate.
The diesel adjustment is smaller still: a 50-litre purchase would cost Rs8.50 less at the new notified rate. Diesel is an important fuel for freight, buses and agriculture, although the effect of a 17-paisa reduction on transport fares or food prices cannot be assumed.
The announced figures are notified per-litre prices. They should not be confused with any separate retailer-specific charges or with projections about future changes.
Official figures
The Petroleum Division’s announcement was carried by Radio Pakistan. APP also reported the previous and revised rates and the 15 October effective date.
Consumers should consult the latest official notification for any subsequent revision rather than treating these rates as fixed for an extended period.
