Pakistan’s economy grew by 3.65% during the financial year 2025–26, slightly below the earlier estimate of 3.70%, according to revised national accounts approved by the National Accounts Committee (NAC) on Monday.
The updated figures, released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), put the size of Pakistan’s economy at $450.4 billion, with per capita income estimated at $1,896.
Agriculture improves while industry and services slow
The revised figures show that agriculture performed better than previously estimated, while growth in industry and services was adjusted downward.
Agricultural growth was revised upward to 3.50%, compared with the earlier estimate of 2.89%.
Industrial growth was revised to 3.34% from 3.51%, while services growth was reduced to 3.81% from 4.09%.
The improvement in agriculture was supported by stronger performance in important crops, including wheat and maize. Growth in the important crops category was revised upward from 0.65% to 1.59%.
Other crops also performed better than previously estimated, with their growth revised from 2.43% to 4.28%.
Quarterly growth figures revised
The NAC also updated its estimates for the first three quarters of FY2026.
Growth in the first quarter was revised slightly downward to 3.89%, compared with the previous estimate of 3.92%.
Second-quarter growth increased to 4.31% from 4.05%, while third-quarter growth was raised to 4.42% from 3.99%.
However, the economy expanded by only 2.0% during the fourth quarter, indicating a slowdown in the final three months of the financial year.
What the revision means for Pakistan’s economy
The updated estimate provides a more complete picture of economic performance after incorporating additional information on agriculture, industry and services.
Although the overall revision is relatively small, the differences between sectors are significant.
Improved agricultural output helped support the economy, while slower growth in industry and services limited the annual expansion.
The figures also underline the importance of examining individual sectors rather than relying on the headline GDP growth rate alone.
The revised national accounts will provide a basis for assessing economic performance and planning for the current financial year, FY2027.
