KARACHI — Pakistan is encouraging businesses to increase exports through a government rebate scheme that rewards companies for selling more goods and services overseas.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of export-led economic growth while addressing a ceremony at the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi.

Under the scheme, which took effect on July 1, 2026, exporters can receive a rebate based on how much their annual overseas sales increase.

Businesses that grow exports by up to 10% compared with the previous financial year can qualify for a rebate equal to 1% of the additional export value.

Those that increase exports by more than 10% can qualify for a 2% rebate on the additional value. Companies whose exports do not grow are not eligible.

For example, if a business exports Rs10 million more than it did the previous year and qualifies for the 1% rate, its rebate on that increase would be Rs100,000.

The State Bank of Pakistan has outlined the scheme for exporters of both goods and services.

Export growth is important because selling products and services abroad brings foreign currency into Pakistan. It also supports jobs, manufacturing and business investment.

Higher export earnings can help the country pay for imported fuel, machinery and other essential products.

The government’s approach aims to encourage Pakistani businesses to reach more overseas customers and expand their existing markets.

The scheme links financial support to actual growth in exports, giving participating businesses a direct incentive to increase international sales.
