Pakistan’s regulator has reduced September prices for regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) by around 20%, following a fall in the cost of imported LNG cargoes.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority notified lower prices for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).

For SNGPL, the transmission-stage price fell 19.99% to $13.99 per million British thermal units, compared with $17.49 in August. Its distribution-stage price declined 20.14% to approximately $15.20.

SSGCL’s transmission price dropped 21.53% to $12.61, while its distribution price fell 21.57% to $14.22 per million British thermal units.

The reduction reflects cheaper LNG imports. The average delivered price for two September cargoes was about $10.06 per unit, down from $12.12 in August and $18.96 in July.

RLNG is natural gas imported in liquid form and converted back into gas before being supplied through pipelines.

Its final price includes more than the cargo cost. Terminal charges, transportation, margins and system losses can create differences between the rates notified for the two gas companies.

Lower RLNG prices may ease fuel costs for some industrial users and power producers, depending on their supply arrangements.

However, the reduction should not be mistaken for an automatic 20% cut in every household’s natural gas bill. Consumer tariffs follow separate arrangements, and the effect varies by customer category.

The September notification therefore signals relief in imported LNG costs rather than a uniform reduction in gas charges across Pakistan.
