ISLAMABAD — The Federal Board of Revenue’s published timetable listed September 30 as the income-tax return filing deadline for individuals and associations of persons for Tax Year 2026.

Companies generally had a December 31 filing date, while companies operating under a special tax year were also listed with a September 30 deadline.

As of September 29, taxpayers were being advised to follow the official schedule unless the FBR formally announced a change.

What taxpayers needed to prepare

Income-tax returns report earnings and other information required under Pakistan’s tax rules. Depending on the taxpayer’s circumstances, filing can also require a wealth statement and reconciliation of assets.

Returns are submitted electronically through the FBR’s IRIS system. Taxpayers may need records of income, tax already deducted, business receipts and relevant assets to complete their submissions.

A deadline approaching does not automatically mean an extension will be granted. Requests from trade organisations or tax practitioners are separate from a formal decision by the authority.

Later development

The September 30 date was the applicable published deadline when this report was prepared. The FBR subsequently issued an official extension to October 15 for taxpayers whose Tax Year 2026 returns had been due on September 30.

That later decision changed the filing position for the affected taxpayers. It did not automatically alter every other tax deadline.

Taxpayers should check current FBR notifications rather than relying on older deadline reports or unofficial messages.

The distinction between the original deadline and the subsequent extension is particularly important for anyone reviewing tax notices after September 30.
