Gold prices in Pakistan rose sharply on Wednesday, with the benchmark price increasing by Rs4,300 to Rs441,636 per tola as the international gold market also moved higher.

The price of 10 grams of gold increased by Rs3,686 to Rs378,631, according to rates shared by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association.

The move reversed Tuesday’s decline, when the local price had fallen by Rs800 to Rs437,336 per tola.

Gold rebounds after Tuesday’s decline

Wednesday’s Rs4,300 increase took the local per-tola rate back above Rs440,000.

The change was accompanied by a rise in international gold. The international rate was reported at $4,191 per ounce, up $43 for the session.

Local gold prices are influenced by movements in international bullion as well as the rupee-dollar exchange rate and domestic market conditions. That means the size of a change in Pakistan does not always match the percentage move in international gold exactly.

The latest increase also follows a volatile period for precious metals, with Pakistani buyers seeing large daily changes in local rates.

On Monday, the domestic market recorded a much steeper decline of Rs12,800 per tola. Tuesday brought another Rs800 decrease before Wednesday’s Rs4,300 rebound. Those moves illustrate why a single day’s increase or decrease should not be treated as establishing a longer-term trend.

Silver price also increases

Silver moved higher alongside gold. Its price increased by Rs20 to Rs6,578 per tola, according to the same market update.

For households and jewellery buyers, the per-tola and 10-gram gold rates are the most commonly followed domestic benchmarks. Actual jewellery prices can differ because making charges, purity and retailer margins are added to the underlying gold value.

For investors, daily bullion prices can also be affected by changes in global expectations for interest rates, currency markets and geopolitical risk. Wednesday’s Pakistan rate, however, is best understood as the day’s quoted local market movement rather than a prediction about where gold will trade next.

The September 30 update therefore leaves gold at Rs441,636 per tola and Rs378,631 per 10 grams after a Rs4,300 and Rs3,686 increase respectively, while international gold was reported at $4,191 per ounce.
