ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has departed for Bangkok to represent Pakistan at the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group, scheduled for October 12 to 18.

According to the Finance Division’s announcement, his programme includes more than 60 engagements with multilateral lenders, government counterparts, investors, banks, credit-rating agencies, policy organisations and other stakeholders.

The minister is expected to participate in discussions involving the IMF, World Bank Group, International Finance Corporation and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency. The meetings provide a forum for economic-policy talks and investment outreach.

The trip comes as Pakistan continues to manage its external financing needs and relations with international lenders. However, attendance at the meetings does not itself confirm any new loan, financing disbursement or investment agreement.

Further announcements will be needed to establish the outcomes of specific meetings and whether they result in formal commitments.
