KARACHI: The Sindh government and representatives of flour mills have agreed to reduce the ex-mill price of flour by Rs6 per kilogram, from Rs161 to Rs155, following talks over rising food costs.
The ex-mill price agreement was reached at a meeting chaired by provincial Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman. Officials and industry representatives discussed wheat availability, milling costs and supply arrangements.
The minister said the government was working to improve wheat supply to mills, including arrangements for imported wheat to move from the port to milling facilities. He also highlighted the need to pass the benefits of wheat availability on to consumers.
Millers said higher market wheat prices had contributed to the recent increase in flour costs. The provincial administration said it would monitor supplies and seek to prevent unjustified price rises.
The Rs155 figure is the agreed ex-mill price, not a verified province-wide retail shelf price. Actual prices paid by households may include transport, distribution and retailer margins, and implementation needs to be checked in local markets.
