ISLAMABAD, October 27, 2026: The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has held talks with Punjab’s leadership on simplifying business regulations and improving coordination between federal and provincial authorities.
The October 26 meeting brought together Punjab’s chief minister, an SIFC delegation and the adviser to the prime minister on industries and production.
According to the government’s statement, discussions focused on business registration, licensing procedures and compliance requirements that can create difficulties for companies operating across different jurisdictions.
Officials highlighted the Asaan Karobar reform framework as a means of reducing regulatory fragmentation and making business-related government services more accessible.
The proposed approach would involve closer coordination between federal and provincial institutions, alongside the sharing of practices already adopted in individual provinces.
Following the meeting, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb joined federal officials at a press conference outlining the importance of continued cooperation.
For businesses, the central question is whether the reforms will reduce the number of separate approvals and procedures required to establish or expand operations.
Simpler rules could also make compliance requirements easier to understand, particularly for smaller firms with limited administrative resources.
However, the government did not announce a nationwide implementation date, a final list of regulations to be removed or an estimate of potential savings for businesses.
The discussions represent another step in the government’s investment facilitation programme, rather than the completion of a new regulatory system.
Further announcements will be needed to establish which changes Punjab will introduce and how they will be coordinated with federal requirements.
