ISLAMABAD, October 27, 2026: The federal government has approved the appointment of four independent directors to the board of the Strategic Digital Wallet Company, an entity established to manage Pakistan’s sovereign virtual assets.

The decision was taken on Monday by the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

According to the Finance Division, the company is responsible for managing, safeguarding and administering virtual assets held on behalf of the state.

The appointments form part of the government’s efforts to establish oversight arrangements for the entity.

Independent directors can provide scrutiny of management decisions and help strengthen accountability, although their effectiveness depends on the powers, information and safeguards available to them.

The government’s announcement did not identify the four appointees or disclose details of the assets the company will administer.

It also provided no valuation of those assets or timetable for the company’s full operations.

Despite its name, the Strategic Digital Wallet Company should not be confused with a consumer mobile wallet or a digital currency issued by the State Bank of Pakistan.

The announcement concerns the governance of a state entity rather than the launch of a new public payment service.

At the same meeting, the cabinet committee approved board nominations for Pakistan State Oil and considered other institutional proposals.

For the digital asset company, the next important disclosures will be the identities of its directors, its governance framework and the reporting standards governing assets under its control.
