ISLAMABAD, October 25, 2026: Pakistan and Qatar have discussed steps to expand bilateral trade, attract investment and advance cooperation on a potential free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed co-chaired the second meeting of the bilateral task force in Doha on Saturday, October 24, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Press Information Department on October 25.
The discussions covered ways to strengthen commercial links, identify investment opportunities and improve coordination between the two countries’ relevant institutions.
Officials considered a proposal for 11 sector-specific working groups intended to turn broader cooperation priorities into practical engagement between businesses and government agencies.
The two sides also reviewed matters relating to the proposed Pakistan–GCC free trade agreement, a framework that could shape future trade relations with Gulf economies if negotiations progress.
For Pakistan, closer commercial cooperation with Qatar could provide opportunities to diversify export destinations and attract investment in sectors where the countries have complementary interests.
The meeting reflected continued diplomatic and economic engagement. The announcement did not report the signing of a new free trade agreement or a major investment contract, and the proposed working groups remain part of the follow-up agenda.
