Pakistan’s government is preparing to establish a national compliance authority to address sustainability and compliance requirements that are increasingly important for international buyers.

Adviser to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan announced the plan while speaking to members of the All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association.

Khan said Pakistan’s textile industry needs stronger compliance, sustainability and production standards to remain competitive in international markets.

The proposed authority is part of a wider effort to improve the environment for formal businesses and exporters. The government has also highlighted taxation, documentation and risk-based inspection issues affecting industry.

The authority has not yet been established. At this stage, the development is a government plan, so its eventual mandate, legal structure and implementation will depend on the framework adopted.

For exporters, the significance is the government’s growing focus on meeting buyer and market-access requirements rather than treating compliance solely as a domestic regulatory issue.
