KARACHI, October 26, 2026: Four major Pakistani banks reported combined after-tax profits of approximately Rs201 billion during the first nine months of 2026, reflecting continued profitability across the country’s banking sector.

Financial results announced last week show strong earnings at Meezan Bank, Habib Bank Limited (HBL), MCB Bank and Bank Alfalah.

Meezan Bank reported approximately Rs74.5 billion in profit after tax for January to September, while HBL earned around Rs54.1 billion.

MCB Bank reported standalone profit of approximately Rs41.4 billion, and Bank Alfalah recorded Rs30.61 billion, an increase of nearly 43 percent from the corresponding period last year.

The combined figure is an approximate calculation based on the four institutions’ reported results rather than a separately published industry total.

Despite the strong profits, lending growth has remained relatively modest compared with the expansion in bank deposits.

Figures cited in MCB’s results indicate that deposits across the banking industry grew by around 9.1 percent during the nine-month period, while advances increased by approximately 3 percent.

The difference raises questions about how effectively growing bank deposits are being channelled into financing for businesses and households.

Bank earnings remain sensitive to interest rates, returns on government securities, financing demand and operating costs.

The results come as the State Bank of Pakistan prepares to announce its latest monetary policy decision, which could influence lending conditions and banks’ profitability in the months ahead.
