Pakistan Customs destroyed seized goods valued at Rs7.711 billion during an operation in Karachi’s Gadap Town on October 17, according to a government announcement.

The operation involved Customs enforcement officials in Karachi and the Customs collectorate at Jinnah International Airport.

Narcotics made up the bulk of the goods destroyed, with Customs putting their value at Rs7.124 billion. Liquor, expired and counterfeit products and other prohibited items accounted for another Rs586.58 million.

The figures are official valuations of confiscated goods, not money recovered by the government.

Customs said the destruction was carried out under procedures prescribed by the Customs Act, 1969, and Customs General Order No. 12/2002.

The announcement did not provide a complete inventory of the goods, their seizure dates or the number of criminal cases connected to them.

The operation forms part of Customs’ efforts to dispose of prohibited goods taken into custody during enforcement activities.
