The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has notified K-Electric’s average base tariff at Rs32.37 per unit under the utility’s multiyear tariff framework.
The figure is Rs7.60 per unit below the earlier Rs39.97 determination. The notified base tariff relates to K-Electric’s tariff framework and does not mean every Karachi consumer will simply be billed at Rs32.37 for each unit of electricity.
Consumers in Karachi continue to pay electricity rates under the federal government’s uniform tariff policy, which is designed to align applicable consumer tariffs across distribution companies despite differences in their underlying cost structures.
The Rs32.37 figure is therefore important for K-Electric’s regulated revenue requirement and the government’s subsidy calculations rather than serving as a single retail rate for all customers.
The base tariff is also subject to the mechanisms applying under the multiyear tariff regime, including adjustments linked to relevant economic variables over the tariff period.
Source and regulatory context
The notification appears in NEPRA’s K-Electric distribution tariff records, under the September 23, 2026 notification for the distribution multiyear tariff review. The notified average base tariff is a regulatory determination, not a flat per-unit rate for all consumer bills.
