ISLAMABAD: McDonald’s Pakistan and electric vehicle charging technology company StarCharge have signed a cooperation agreement to explore installing EV charging facilities at selected restaurant locations across Pakistan.

The agreement was formalised in Islamabad on October 19, 2026, as the companies considered opportunities to support the country’s developing electric vehicle infrastructure.

Under the proposed arrangement, StarCharge would contribute expertise in charging equipment and smart energy systems, while McDonald’s would assess suitable locations within its restaurant network.

The companies plan to examine technical feasibility, infrastructure requirements and commercial viability before deciding whether to proceed with installations.

The partnership is currently exploratory and does not represent a confirmed nationwide rollout of charging stations.

If implemented, the facilities could allow electric vehicle owners to charge their cars while eating at participating restaurants.

McDonald’s Pakistan Managing Director Jamil Mughal and StarCharge executives were involved in the collaboration.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain welcomed the agreement during the signing ceremony.

He described private-sector participation as important for developing cleaner transport infrastructure and encouraging investment in new technologies.

Public charging availability remains an important consideration for motorists deciding whether electric vehicles can meet their everyday travel needs.

Placing charging equipment at established commercial destinations could make charging more convenient without requiring drivers to visit dedicated facilities.

The companies have not announced a confirmed list of restaurant locations, installation dates or the number of charging points planned.
