Direct container shipping connectivity between Karachi and major European ports has been restored through the reinstatement of Mediterranean Shipping Company’s PREMIUM IPAK service, Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced.
The service is expected to make weekly calls at Karachi Gateway Terminal International, linking Karachi to European destinations including Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Le Havre and London Gateway via Colombo.
The restored option could help exporters facing disrupted routes and higher logistics costs. However, the minister cautioned that wider global shipping challenges remain unresolved. The announcement does not guarantee reduced freight rates or uninterrupted transit for every shipment.
