ISLAMABAD: JazzCash has introduced electricity bill payment services for consumers of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Department, allowing residents to settle their bills through its mobile application or authorised agents.

The service, announced on October 20, is intended to make electricity payments more accessible across AJK, particularly in remote and mountainous areas where customers may need to travel long distances to reach banks or collection centres.

Customers with smartphones can use the JazzCash app, while those without smartphones or bank accounts can pay through participating JazzCash agents.

The new facility adds electricity payments to the company’s existing public-sector payment services in AJK, which include examination fee collection for the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

JazzCash Head of Public Sector Partnerships Arif Chaudhary said the arrangement was designed to make essential services easier to access without requiring residents to visit physical banking facilities.

AJK Secretary for Energy and Water Resources Muhammad Tayyab said digital payments could reduce travel requirements for consumers and improve the efficiency of electricity bill collection.

The company said it is working with public-sector organisations to expand digital payment options and reduce dependence on cash transactions.

The announcement forms part of broader efforts to digitise government-related payments across Pakistan.

For electricity consumers in AJK, the practical change is the availability of an additional payment channel through mobile phones and local agents.
