Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has further extended the deadline for filing income-tax returns for tax year 2026 to 31 October 2026, according to a notification reported on 15 October.

The extension applies to persons whose returns were originally due on 30 September and whose filing date had already been moved to 15 October. The FBR cited requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations.

What changed

This is a further extension, not the first revision of the filing deadline. Pakistan Report previously covered the move from 30 September to 15 October; the latest notification provides an additional period until 31 October for the specified taxpayers.

According to the notification reproduced in reporting, the FBR exercised powers under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The scope of the order matters: taxpayers with different statutory deadlines or separate orders should not assume every filing obligation has changed.

What taxpayers should do

Affected taxpayers should use the extra time to complete accurate returns and review applicable filing requirements. Businesses and individuals with complex cases should consult the FBR notification or a qualified tax adviser for their specific obligations.

The extension does not by itself announce a waiver of tax liabilities, penalties unrelated to the specified deadline, or changes to tax rates. Those claims would require separate official notices.
