ISLAMABAD: Engro Fertilizers Limited and Mari Energies Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation on community development and sustainable livelihoods in their shared areas of operation.
The agreement establishes a framework for joint initiatives in agricultural livelihoods, education, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), youth employability and healthcare.
Environmental sustainability, sports and cultural development are also among the areas identified for cooperation.
In its October 20 announcement, Mari Energies said the partnership would bring together the companies’ expertise, resources and networks to develop programmes addressing community needs.
Agricultural livelihoods are a central area of potential cooperation, linking Engro Fertilizers’ agricultural expertise with Mari Energies’ existing community development activities.
Mari Energies already operates healthcare, education and livelihood programmes in communities surrounding its operations. Its published sustainability information describes support through hospitals, mobile medical units, telehealth services and educational initiatives in remote and underserved areas.
The new agreement provides a framework for the companies to explore further collaboration in these sectors, alongside programmes intended to improve young people’s skills and employment prospects.
Both companies have identified long-term community outcomes as a priority for the partnership.
The memorandum outlines areas for future cooperation rather than a list of approved projects. The companies have not announced a dedicated budget, beneficiary targets or an implementation timetable for the joint initiatives.
