ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s planned march on Islamabad remains scheduled for October 4 after the party postponed the protest from its earlier September 27 date.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced the revised date after a meeting of PTI’s political committee, saying the march would proceed from Peshawar towards the federal capital.

The announcement keeps a major opposition mobilisation on the political calendar as PTI continues to press its demands amid a prolonged confrontation with the federal government and state institutions.

March moved from September 27

PTI had initially planned to march on Islamabad on September 27 before shifting the date by one week.

Afridi said the political committee had agreed to the postponement. Pakistani media have reported differing accounts of the factors behind the change, including organisational and logistical considerations. Those accounts should be distinguished from the party’s formal announcement of the new date.

The October 4 plan is therefore a scheduled political protest, not an event that has already taken place. Details such as the final route, assembly points and arrangements can still change before the march.

The party has repeatedly used public rallies and protest calls as part of its campaign over the imprisonment of founder Imran Khan and its wider disputes with the government.

Political confrontation remains unresolved

The march comes against the backdrop of a political deadlock in which PTI has continued to demand relief for Khan and challenge government actions, while authorities have defended legal and administrative measures as matters to be handled through established institutions and the courts.

For Islamabad residents and travellers, the practical significance of the protest will depend on the security and traffic plans announced closer to October 4. Previous political demonstrations in and around the capital have resulted in road closures and other movement restrictions.

No such restriction should be assumed in advance unless formally announced by the relevant authorities.

The immediate development is narrower: PTI has retained October 4 as the date for its postponed march and says the mobilisation will travel from Peshawar towards Islamabad.

Further clarity is likely to come from party organisers and the Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrations as the date approaches.
