LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: PTI has turned to the courts over the detention of party figures and alleged police actions ahead of its planned September 27 march towards Islamabad, with proceedings under way in both the Lahore and Islamabad high courts.

The Lahore High Court is considering a petition challenging the detention of Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

A September 20 order issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner’s office authorised her detention for 30 days under the MPO. The order followed recommendations from police and intelligence officials on law-and-order grounds.

The LHC subsequently sought arguments on the maintainability of the petition challenging the detention.

Separate proceedings are taking place before the Islamabad High Court.

The IHC has summoned Islamabad’s SSP Operations for September 24 in connection with a petition by PTI lawmakers alleging harassment and raids on the homes of party leaders. Those allegations form part of the petition and should not be treated as independently established findings by the court.

Another petition before the IHC seeks the recovery of PTI MNA Sanaullah Mastikhel. Claims concerning his detention or disappearance are allegations made in the legal proceedings rather than an independently established account of what occurred.

The cases come as PTI prepares for its September 27 march towards Islamabad, which the party says is intended to press for the release of Imran Khan.

Punjab authorities have separately sought Rangers deployment in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali ahead of planned protest activity.

The court proceedings and security preparations are therefore developing in parallel ahead of the march, with questions over individual detentions being contested through the judicial process.
