ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has announced plans for an all-parties conference within the next ten days to discuss the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking in a television interview on October 22, Raja said the conference could be held earlier and that contacts with other political parties were underway.
He identified Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman among the political figures with whom discussions had taken place.
The proposed gathering follows the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11, a decision challenged by PTI in the courts.
Raja rejected suggestions that Sohail Afridi, the province’s non-functioning chief minister, had caused the breakdown of negotiations with the federal government.
He attributed the collapse to two disagreements: access for PTI founder Imran Khan’s personal physicians and the extent of federal authority over provincial affairs.
Raja accused the government of seeking control over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s administration. Those allegations reflect PTI’s position and have been disputed by government representatives.
The federal government has defended its intervention by citing the province’s security situation and concerns about counterterrorism.
Raja said the political dispute required participation from parties beyond PTI.
The conference’s date, venue, final agenda and participating parties have not yet been confirmed. Its announcement marks an effort to organise a broader political discussion while government–opposition negotiations remain unresolved.
