National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has issued production orders for two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the National Assembly, Sanaullah Khan Masti Khel and Dawar Khan Kundi, to enable them to attend parliamentary proceedings.

The orders were issued on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, while the lawmakers were in the custody of Punjab Police. State broadcaster Radio Pakistan confirmed the decision on 15 October.

What the orders require

Reports of the orders say the speaker acted under Rule 108 of the National Assembly’s Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business. The relevant authorities were directed to arrange for the members’ presence at the House, including production before the Sergeant-at-Arms at Parliament House for sittings covered by the orders.

Production orders are a parliamentary mechanism for facilitating a detained member’s attendance. They do not themselves amount to release from custody, withdrawal of charges or a court decision on the underlying detention.

Parliamentary context

The orders came during a period of heightened disagreement between the government and PTI, including parliamentary debate over emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The decision to facilitate attendance is distinct from those wider political disputes.

As of the reporting reviewed for this article, the issuance of the orders was confirmed, but their execution at each subsequent sitting had not been independently established.
