The federal government has announced an 11-member advisory council to assist Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi after the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency measures in the province.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced the council’s composition, according to reporting on October 11. Kundi subsequently chaired the council’s first meeting and identified the law-and-order situation as an immediate priority.

The governor’s advisory council should not be confused with a separate federal-level committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. Dawn reported on October 13 that the prime minister had formed that second body to monitor governance and security matters and coordinate with the provincial setup.

The new arrangements remain politically contested, and their legal status is the subject of wider debate over the emergency and governor’s rule. Neither advisory body should be described as a court-approved replacement for elected provincial institutions.
