Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has emerged as a possible mediator between the federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf amid the opposition’s continuing protest campaign. Aaj News reported, citing political sources, that representatives of both sides had sought his involvement. According to those accounts, Fazlur Rehman is assessing whether the parties are serious about dialogue before deciding whether to take on a formal role. A government delegation reportedly included Rana Sanaullah, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. Dawn subsequently reported PTI leader Junaid Akbar expressing openness to a constructive role for Fazlur Rehman in purposeful dialogue. Neither development amounts to a formally agreed negotiating agenda or a confirmed political settlement. The possible mediation follows growing tensions around PTI’s protest movement and security arrangements near Islamabad. Fazlur Rehman has previously argued that political disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than emergency measures. The next meaningful step would be confirmation from both sides of the mediator’s mandate, representatives and subjects for negotiation. Until then, the story must remain framed as reported exploratory mediation, not a breakthrough.
